Don’t get me started on the whole Kirk thing. Canon wise, John ‘shared’ himself with Chya. I’ve always hated the ‘glowy sex’ term because obviously it was spiritual/energy/chi type sharing.
The girl from the Tower pursued him and I think his horrid expression on his face when he learned her true intent should have been enough of what he thought about that. JM script btw.
Teer I think was his only on screen romance after feeling abandoned and left alone for six months.
The only time I saw real sparks fly with was with Larrin.
On the other hand Rodney had two relationships on screen. John flirted a few times and had one night with Teer and the next day he was back on Atlantis. Kirk my ass.
That's why there are hardly any fics written before season 4 that I can still read today. It feels like almost all writers, whether they wrote gen, het or slash jumped on the "John is a manwhore" bandwagon.
The thing with Chaya? Not sex. The thing with Mara? She literally threw herself on him. Teer? He'd been alone in the cloister for months, thinking that his friends had abandoned him, and she still had to make the first move. Larrin? Had him at her mercy. (and it wasn't like they went to a spa together... ;) ).
But since Rodney called him Kirk, that meant he had to sleep around. Obviously. :/
Lt. Colonel John Sheppard: We got the drones, we got a few Jumpers. I even got the girl. Dr. Elizabeth Weir: You got the girl? Lt. Colonel John Sheppard: Well, I mean I could have got the girl. I turned her down.
...so, canonically, unless he way lying to Elizabeth (and why would he bother when he could just NOT BRING IT UP IN CONVERSATION instead), he turned her down. Some Kirk! Although frankly, the whole legend of the Womanizing Kirk doesn't really hold up on scrutiny.
Not just on TV...even some of the novels have Sheppard portrayed as the "Kirk" type. In "Blood Ties", a woman he once knew tells him she always felt he 'connected best with strong women'. There are a couple others (can't place them right off) where Rodney makes offhand references to things like Sheppard's 'obligatory weekly Kirk moment'.
If we could have gotten a Season Six, I would have loved to see another episode with John and Larrin. There was just something between them.
