I think what does it for me - then vs now - is that swagger of confidence he has (personally). He's overcome a lot of his shyness, and that "I know who I am" is just incredibly sexy.
Yes, yes! Even if promo pics he has this awkward shyness about him. He's still shy, but able to overcome it better. I talked to a Creation Con rep once and she said she escorted Joe to one of those 'breakfast' things included for gold ticket holder and she said he pressed himself again the wall and said, "that is a lot of people."
(They're expected to talk to each group at the tables and I bet that's a huge difference from those small meet and greets and talking on stage)
He's never done a gold pass breakfast since at cons.
From what the rep told me, it was his first breakfast thing and hadn't expected 200-300 people. She said it took him a good minute or two to ready to enter the room.
For some reason I am frankly not surprised.......... I think he feels more confident up on a stage in front of the faithful than in a setting that is more up close and personal. I think his interviews have even reflected it a bit if you look closely..........
