God, I have always loved this particular image. Any idea what the original source was? :-)

I know a lot of people said they don't like it.
I do.
I love black and white photography and what's not to love
about the subject of this photograph???

So what if it is stark??? perhaps that was the intent and why JF
agreed to do it
I still remember the flap on LJ when it was originally viewed.
My uncle, a semi professional photographer, encouraged me to take
black and white. He said sometimes it is the ONLY media that reflects
a sense of realism that is needed.
One winter I took some shots here in Oregon when we went to Crater Lake.
I still cannot believe how they reflect the beauty of that day. I am not sure that would have happened had I used color

Exactly. I is why I think those winter shots of Crater Lake were so
wonderful.......stark and beautiful
Joe does black and white beautifully......
There are a few others of him in BNW and they too are terrific.

The photographer did quite well with this project, but while clicking through it, I remember being struck that there were only two or three men in it over the age of, say, 35... most were young to the point of not having a lot of character written on their smooth little faces. Really, most seemed to me to be mere boys, and this picture was one of the few who was actually a man of experience. I'm kind of sorry to read in the comments that Joe's not on the site anymore.

You know, I went over there and tried to find him, but the set up of that site is rather frustrating. It's very artistic, but makes cycling through the pictures quickly a bit of a slog. He might be in there, I just got frustrated and stopped looking after a while!

I understand the photographer is either going to or has done an "About Face" for women, too? I'd like to him try to get all those starlets to allow themselves to be photographed w/o any makeup!

There is so much potential with black and white photography....

Lovely shot.
