Just Runner and Instinct left. We didn't view as many eps as in the past... maybe it was all the talking and squeeing... imagine that!

SHEPPARD: Alright, for what it's worth, I'd never send you in there if I thought the guy was gonna hurt you.
BECKETT: Is that opinion based on some sort of evidence, or is it just a gut feeling that this gentleman isn't dangerous?
SHEPPARD: I didn't say he wasn't dangerous. He could probably kill you in the blink of an eye. I don't think he will.
BECKETT: Well thank you, I feel much better now!
SHEPPARD: You ever heard of Androcles and the Lion?

I always thought something missing in earlier episodes..............and knew what it was
when Runner rolled around........I KNEW Sheppard and Ronon would form a
tight bond.............

Yeah Ford was okay but Ronon just added something better to the show.

And I loved when Teyla was trying to get her hands free and John thinks it feels like something else. I know what my hands would have been doing. Teyla's no dummy. She knew what she was doing too. She was just playing coy.

I thought Runner was a great episode and a fantastic introduction to Ronon. :) Ford was fun, but Ronon brought an energy to the team that I really liked.

Oh, the second one *gg* John looks so cute ♥

I must say, i liked Ronon more than Ford. He fits better into the team.

I have to admit that I liked Ford more than Ronon - If they had to replace Ford then I would have preferred someone like Stackhouse or Captain Vega as the fourth member of the team.

Edited because I can't type letters in the right order.

I loved the back-and-forths between Sheppard and Beckett. There weren't enough of them, IMO. Like the one in 'Poisoning the Well' - "McCoy's the TV character that Beckett plays in real life." Awesome.

Ford was alright. Liked his grinning, kid-like moments contrasted with his take-charge soldier side like in 'The Storm/The Eye.' But Ronon just amped things up several more notches, and the on-screen chemistry with Sheppard was an order of magnitude better. That, if nothing else, was a good reason to make the change.

Ford vs Ronon

From: [identity profile] sheplover928.livejournal.com
Ford was a good character...the young soldier looking up to his commander is always good. I like that Ford came to,respect Sheppard. I hated when Sumner pointed out to Ford that essentially Sheppard was a loose cannon., so when Ford shows respect, it was earned through who and what Sheppard stands for....Ford got that. The dynamic was good, but John needed an equal..hence the alien warrior, Ronon, who he respects and can bounce ideas off of without looking weak. I agree the chemistry between the two was paramount. Mutual respect by equals was an important dynamic for the show.

Well said on both characters' parts!

I think the main advantage with Ronon - from a storytelling point of view - was that there was more opportunity for growth and change in his relationship with Sheppard. He was, like you said, more of an independent equal, whereas the relationship between Ford and Sheppard would always be somewhat defined by their superior/subordinate ranks and the parameters of the military, no matter how easy-going Sheppard was about protocol.

You know it's funny I've always thought that Sheppard's whole team was really on par with each other and Sheppard was just a figure head of a leader.
Truly McKay was the head scientist, Teyla was a leader of her whole people and then you discussed Ronon.
I actually liked that about them that they all had their own strengths about them and seemed equal in so many ways. Four parts of a whole.
The rest of the team deferred to Sheppard because of their deep respect for him.
