Beautiful soft effects on this photo. Lovely and - you're right - appropriately retro.
Speaking of his profile, I love the way the angle of his nose and the angle of his outer ear are perfectly parallel. Not that I've been staring or obsessing or anything....

You're right! I know it's been said before, but I am constantly amazed at how imperfectly perfect Joe's features are. Beautiful, gorgeous, handsome, rugged... yes to all of that, but the imperfections only seem to heighten his appeal.
All very true, and also the fact that his looks are fairly distinctive and unique - no one else in 'The Biz' looks like him. His features have so much character - he's not so pretty that he's bland.
And yet, as "beautiful, gorgeous, handsome, and rugged" as he is, his looks are such a small part of what makes him attractive.
THIS! That's such a great way to state it, because there's a lot of that in Hollywood. I put Joe in the same company with Harrison Ford, who has that same "character" thing going and who I still swoon over.
Exactly! I see a lot of similarities to Ford, with a generous side of Pierce Brosnan and a dash of Gregory Peck, all of whom have that seriously swoon-worthy "character," and all of whom got better with age.
And what guy wouldn't like to be favorably compared to those three?
OMG! I have always thought that his face is so perfectly angular. In some pics it is the shape of an ice cream cone. And his ears are angular and his jaw and his nose. They are all so perfectly angular. (And no I haven't been staring either *clears throat*)
Temperance Brennan (Bones) says that symmetrical faces are more innately attractive to people. Must be why we are all so attracted to Joe.
Interestingly, if you take a straight-on photo of him and flip it to a mirror image, his face is surprisingly asymmetrical. His brow/eyeline has a distinct down-slope to one side, his jaw is noticeably crooked, and his mouth extends further to one side than the other, even when he's not smirking.
Then again, that's true of most people. Almost everyone's face is somewhat asymmetrical. I know mine is. It's just usually so subtle that we don't notice it about people until we've spent an embarrassing amount of time staring at them. *clears throat, too*
