6 Bullets to screen at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival today according to this Cinado article. The film is presently 93 minutes and Joe has second billing. \0/ But, while it looks as if they now have an official poster, it is sadly missing teh Flan.

flan6b2_valenti

A comment on one of the Van Damme forums said putting Joe on the poster would "create more interest." I'd second that.

And just the exact minute I'm reading this, the screening is actually starting \o/.

Also, I agree, Joe should most definitely be on the poster!

IMHO it sucks. Joe should be in that poster. Period. The truth is that at least 50% of all the people who want to watch this movie will *only* do it because Joe's in it.

I hope Joe will enjoy watching Six Bullets at its official Cannes premier today. I also hope it will get good reviews.

We'll know more for sure tomorrow.

ETA: I forgot to add that I still hope this film is actually a good one. And, selfishly, I hope we get LOTS or at least *some*.... shirtless Flan :) After all they put that tattoo on him NOT to cover it completely with clothes.....

Selfishly, I agree with you, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's more shirtless JCVD than shirtless Joe. *eyeroll*

On the other hand, something was said about Joe's character trying to make a martial arts comeback, so maybe there will be lots of him training/sparring. Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease....

In Goteborg in March I spoke to him about his shoulder - I asked him what his doctor thought of his trainings for Six Bullets - he replied that his doctor never knew as he skipped his last appointment....

He added that his shoulder was pretty ok, but there were days when it was worse. His training for Six Bullets wasn’t THAT tough but there were tough fights and then it hurt. He also said that he'd surprise us all and we would see a Joe Flanigan that we had never seen before.

We can hope he meant "shirtless" and "beating the crap out of everything in sight" :)

That's all just... incredibly enticing. Yes, we can hope that, and we will.

Add in the fact that the crew used real dynamite, and hey - I'm totally on board! ;)

Quite enough for me ... LOL .

We all know what to expect from JCVD movie and that's enough for me too :)

Oh my word....................you mean he finally has a bit of exposure??
(((APPLAUDS))))

Provided the film gets good reviews - otherwise such "exposure" may turn out to be disastrous....

In Goteborg Joe said that it turned out better than he'd expected - so I remain hopeful. :)

((((NODS))))) the exposure I spoke of earlier does not always bode well
If it hits a snag, it goes to DVD immediately..............

From: [identity profile] berryann.livejournal.com
I'd be REALLY glad if it went straight to DVD - then I'd have a chance to watch it really soon!

My problem is that here they only show "good" films at the cinemas - you know, box office hits.... So, it's really doubtful that I'd get to watch Six Bullets at any cinema here.

I doubt it will find a distributor save for DVD..................

Huh! According to the tagline at that link above, we finally know what the title means. JCVD's character is rumored to 'have taken six bullets to the chest.' Okay.

It's a shame they haven't got The Flan on the poster!

Okay, not so funny it seems there are lots of angry fans now at FedCon. Poor JF!
Date: 2012-05-17 04:58 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] hyndara71.livejournal.com
Nope, he will only be late. They had to move his panel from today to tomorrow evening, his photo-OP was today and is now moved to Saturday. Now there are some fans who aren't around anymore on Saturday and they are pissed.
But, well, finally JF will be here. Joel Gretsch cancelled in the very last minute. And Joe isn't the only one late, Bill Shatner isn't there too now.
Date: 2012-05-17 05:14 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] hyndara71.livejournal.com
Mh, as far as I know he now will have more time on stage because the new schedule is from 7.45 pm to 9 pm tomorrow. Today his panel only had an hour from 8 to 9 pm.
I'm more about the Saturday panel he will do together with Kavan Smith because it's the first one in the afternoon and the one before RDA. As far as I know last year RDA needed much more time on his panel and I'm pretty sure they will shorten in front and not after him - because Bill Shatner ;)

From: [identity profile] berryann.livejournal.com
Well, we both know that he COULD have let people know earlier...... (at least a few days ago) so people could have changed their plans too - that's a perfect moment to use his Twitter account.... just sayin' :)

Are you surprised that there're many "angry fans" as you put it? But they will have been all gone by Friday evening.....lol

Date: 2012-05-17 05:43 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] hyndara71.livejournal.com
Mh, I don't know when the organizers were informend about him late - and as I've mentioned, at least Joe IS coming *points to a former post*, others not. For now there are a lot people aren't really happy with the reorganisation of the schedules. BECAUSE the organizers didn't inform anyone. And they definitely had the chance to do so.

Date: 2012-05-17 05:52 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] berryann.livejournal.com
Yes, it may be either the guests cancelling at the very last minute or it's the organizers knowing about it earlier AND not informing people till the very last moment.

As for Joe - he still could have tweeted something..... :P

God, I LOVE your FedCon-icons!
As for JF tweeting ... sure he could have. In fact I'm surprised he didn't after he did the last times he was in Europe

I'm not surprised Joe didn't think of tweeting right off the bat. I don't think he even thought about it. He usually only tweets when he has some down time, away from his family, and bored. Or at a con when reminded about twitter. LOL

Also, considering all the flack he gets when he does tweet, I can see why he doesn't really like twitter.

I'm looking forward to pics and reports from FedCon! As far as JF and scheduling go, it may not be JF's fault. It seems like there quite a few issues last year as well - that Joe and DH were more popular than expected.

Now I'm all confused - WHERE is Six Bullets??? According to this official programme it's NOT shown at all..... O_O

So is it at this festival or not?

According to something I've read, 6B isn't is the 'Competition' section but in the Market Section that takes place today - i.e. it's put up, hoping to find a European buyer? Then we'll get to see it in Europe perhaps?
Date: 2012-05-17 06:28 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] berryann.livejournal.com
Thanks! I'd think this "market section" would also be listed somewhere on this site....

Well.... if it's Market Section..... and if Joe had really been there as we thought he would..... then Joe should have better gone to his panel at FedCon today....

*g* I thought it was supposed to be shown "out of competition" but still at the main festival.....

I'm disappointed now :(

They actually show hundreds of movies during the festival, while only about a dozen are on the official selection list. Quite often even the opening and closing movies are the biggest events and yet they are not part of the official competition.

Cannes is not only there to give a few awards to a few movies, it is, before anything else, a movie festival (I would assume that the closest American equivalent would be the Sundance festival?), so they show a huge amount of movies that have nothing to do with the awards themselves.

It doesn't mean particularly good nor bad for Six Bullets, it just means that it's not in competition for the awards (which isn't really a surprise).

Edited to add : You'll have more chance of finding the movie here : http://www.marchedufilm.com/en/ , That's the "movie market" (and I was mistaking, they aren't showing hundreds of movies, but rather thousands - 4000 playing just this year!)

I'd never really expect anything Joe's been in lately and especially anything JCVD made - to win any form of prize..... even the tiniest one :)

I just hoped (silly of me, I know) that Six Bullets would be shown at the main festival, out of competition, sure, but still at the main festival - that would mean *something*. While being shown at that movie market only means that Six Bullets producers know how to try to sell their film.... That's why I felt disappointed. I'm not any more. It was truly silly of me to have any "artistic" expectations in the first place... lol

I'm so happy to hear that Joe is going to the Cannes premier!

As for FedCon - fans should be glad he's still attending. The film festival is his job and he has to be there. He's being very generous to still be going to the con. After all, actors have an out for work.

I agree, it's nice he is able to do both! Even if 6 Bullets isn't in competition, Cannes is still good exposure for him and the movie. Like you said, he may be required to be there, and I'm sure the folks at Fedcon knew as soon as Joe did, about the conflict.

I hope Joe talks about Cannes during his panel tonight!

From a PR standpoint it makes sense to focus on Van Damme for the poster. He's a has-been, but his name recognition is still a lot bigger than Joe's. It might not be fair, but it's the way it is.

Hi Guys

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
hi
I came here to learn who Joe is and while I am reading this thread it became aparent that some of the views are based on lack of knowledge of movie industry. I am not intending to be rude,Joe is a TV star, so most likely you guys never came across certain aspects of the business. I am not trying to convert anyone in liking Van Damme either, I am far from it however I will quickly explain the set up of 6 Bullets.
There we go
Date: 2012-05-21 10:39 pm (UTC)

1) The Poster

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
6 Bullets is produced by Brad Krevoy of Motion Pictures of America. His own office is also representing international sales of this movie. It is common for small movies, even Oscar winners that they have different distributors in different countries. To be fair only blockbusters have those deals done before getting made. Van Damme is a has been leading star who grossed a billion dollars in theater ticket sales. His DVD still generates more money than total life of some movies appearing in box office. The Poster is only to present it to ditributors that it is a vehicle of an actor which delivers profit. Each distributor then will have rights to make their own poster in their territory meaning that it is very possible that Joe will feature on posters in countries where he is popular. It is a common practice for small movies. The Cannes poster isn't a final poster at all.
Date: 2012-05-21 10:44 pm (UTC)

Cannes Film Market.

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
Cannes Film Market isn't a market section of Cannes Film Festival at all.
It is a seperate event for movie sellers amd buyers just happening in different part of Cannes for convinience that production companies attend the Festival, so they also try to make business at the market. 6 Bullets got a marlet screening for buyers in different part of Cannes than the Festival.
Date: 2012-05-21 10:48 pm (UTC)

Cannes 2

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
Those small movies go to markets. Markets only last few days, so only limited number of distributors can make a deal. To be fully released a small movie like that usually goes to several markets. The biggest markets are: American Film Market, Cannes Film Market happening sake time as Cannes Film Festival, European Film Market happening same time as Berlin Film Festival, Asian Film Market happening while a Bangkok Film Festival etc.

reviews

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
So far the movie has had 3 official reviews:
1) French jurnalis who pationatly hates Van Damme(like some press hate Cage no matter what he does) found the movie boring,
2) American jurnalist didn't know who Joe was(that is why it is easier to sell the movie to distributors slapping Van Damme all over it) - he had a good time watching it and found it enterntaining fun,
Date: 2012-05-21 11:02 pm (UTC)

Reviews2

From: [identity profile] dzidzius.livejournal.com
UK jurnalist - loved the movie and found Joe a solid co-star.

Hope I didn't sound like a preacher. This movie sounds like solid B movie and will most likely get limited theatrical release in US and more in foreign. Van Damme is in demand after years of resclue he is agreeing to do co-starring roles with The Expendables 2 comming out in August where is co-starring with Stallone.

I suggest you guys spend few bucks on watching Assassiantion Games with Van Damme. 6 Bullets has same studio, same director but more budget and more action. Assassination Games was a commercial success, so 6 Bullets has a chance to top that.
