Vid of Joe's Q&A in Malmo, Sweden. Very interesting remarks on the cancellation right up front, and Joe and Jason Momoa are working on something together!
I ABSOLUTELY love what he is saying in this video! He is simply brilliant! In so many ways.
Still.....as for working with Jason.... I'll believe it when I see it. He's been talking about "a new project with David" since FedCon in May 2010 and repeating it on every occasion, whenever asked about working with David again... lol
I like it how he mentioned, that the 'Vegas' episode was a very important and good one...also that they should have done the last episode (Atlantis on Earth) earlier...
These two episodes would really have opened up new storylines.. as he said, even I felt that some of the SGA episodes were just remake/recycled SG1 episodes...
Wah. Only 20 minute Q&A? I'm used to 1-hour things.
Anyway, I loved the bit where he hoped he and David would someday do another Atlantis project; so, in honour of the "pepto-bismol" line, I'm using my old-man McKay icon.
I agree!! I love his honesty!! Its obviious he still is upset over the cancellation-----hell--so am I........arent we all.!!!! SGA was popular and had just won the Peoples Choice award------it made absolutley no sense to cancel the popular established Super fan-based show and risk it all on an unknown--SGU!!! I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for THAT meeting!!! There just had to be more to it than that!!! I too worry though, that Joe's honesty and frustrations will come back to bite him in his lovely lean and fit butt!! In show biz--I dont imagine its good to burn your bridges!! Maybe thats one reason Joe hasnt gotten a new series--cause we all know he should be starring in his own by now!!!
I became his fan because of his honesty. I think he knows very well who he is and what the risks are. And seems that he doesn't intend to change himself :)
Yes, I totally agree about his courage and integrity to speak up about what's happened with the Stargate franchise! I don't remember any other actor having been so honest and open about it all. Sure, David Hewlett talks a lot about missing the series and his character, but as far as I know he's always kept it more diplomatic and safe. I'm mainly a Rodney/David fangirl, but I just have to love Joe for this! ( Plus, he IS damn gorgeous! ;-)
There is a video 'Solitary man' . At that video Joe is still very diplomatic. But I think it was the first interview after cancelation . In next interviews dipomacy vanished .
Wow - what a day to stay tuned around here! Lovely updates - thanks all around!
I like how he just comes right out and calls the producers on their 'if we make it they'll watch' arrogance, and their lying, essentially, about the movie as a way to manipulate the audience. Way to tell it like it is, Joe!!
I always thought Joe is burning bridges with the Producers whenever he talks about the cancellation, not that I blame him, but still... I wish he'd just chalked it as an experience and move on to new & other things or making fun of it like David does.
And thank you for the link. And I agree with the others.. 20 minutes & only about 6 questions ?? that's really short.. especially if you spend a lot of money & time, travelling to see Joe..:(
The 'burning bridges' thought had crossed my mind, too, but if they don't ever get around to the movie, he doesn't really need to cross those bridges ever again, anyway.
And if by some miracle they do make a movie, he knows full well they can't do it without him, not if they want anybody to watch. I mean, who in the fandom would swallow an SGA movie that didn't include Sheppard? Anyone? *hears crickets*
You're right - it's probably not the best way to win points with TPTB, but he's just sayin' what we're all thinking.
Like I said... I don't blame him.. in fact I agree with him on his opinions, like most SGA fans.
The thing is.. TPTB of Stargate could be change into someone else/team, the better ones, but Joe's bitterness will stuck with them. I'm seeing it like Shatner POV on the New Startrek, instead of embracing it like Nimoy. he wants it like it used to be, which is not what people wants anymore..
Besides.. if SGA movie ever made, TPTB -if they're being petty- could just insert one line & explain Sheppard "missing".. just like that!, which would sucked like f*ck, but then a lot of SGA fans are not "just-Sheppard" fans.. they could be enticed with the appearance of the rest of the casts, and be happy with movie, even if it sans-Sheppard.
I like Sheppard a lot, but then I like Rodney too, Becket & even wish Elizabeth would come back one day. So I would watch an SGA movie anyway they can make it.
I probably the only one who say this here, but Joe is dissing the NBC too, which was the channel that made him into the industry... He IS saying what we're all thinking, I''m just saying, IMO, perhaps the less he said, the better in the long run.
Well, definitely, you're right. You probably do tend to run into the same people over and over in the TV/movie industry, and I'd really hate to see Joe's refreshing candor come back to bite him.
And true, there were lots of great reasons to love SGA besides Sheppard, though trying to write the lead hero out of the movie would seem pretty foolish. (Not that I'd put it past them...)
While we certainly appreciate Joe's honesty, I can agree that there are probably some higher-ups who appreciate it a LOT less than we do.
If they ever did make an SGA film, Torri wouldn't come back for it. TPTB treated her abominably and she's already made her opinion very clear when she declined to return for Ghost in the Machine. Jason is a big question sign as well: thanks to Game of Thrones and even Conan he's a big name now, and I don't think he has anything to gain by doing a Stargate movie. If he'd get a nice meaty part in it is one thing, but the writers have already proved that they're not interested in writing for anyone who isn't McKay.
I kind of agree about burning bridges, but in reality if there is an SGA movie I don't see it being the same cast. They might have minor parts, but I'm guessing the producers would be looking for a much younger group of leads. Hollywood seems to think that anyone over 35 can't draw a crowd unless your're a Clooney, Pitt, Streep, Close or Nicholson.
Well--the longer they wait the more likely your idea will happen! Maybe it will be SGA:The Next Genration and the original cast willl be the moms and dads !!!! Hope not, but lets face it--our fave guys were all over 35-40-except Jason,--when it ended......
John looks damn good!!!! I love that he keeps himself lean and fit!! His shirt looks older than he does!!!!! No offense Joe--but though he looks hot in anything--and I imagine--nothing--I wish hie'd invest in a travel iron!!! --or a travel steamer!!! lol!!!
He is movinng on to new things. The audience asked old questions.
He didn't talk like that at the first year after cancelation. In those days he was very politicly correct about the producers. And that still didn't help him. :)
Exactly! He was more diplomatic in the beginning, when the possibility of a movie was still there. But now that it's fairly obvious that it's not gonna happen, he's speaking out about how the producers treated the FANS, not how they treated himself and the cast.
And you're right - they did ask old questions. While he provided lots of new details, we've heard him tell versions of all those stories before. Can't say that I mind, though. I think I'd happily listen to him read the phone book. :)
Wow this was the first time I have really seen him talk. I'm glad he is now talking frankly about the cancellation of the show because that's all us fans what. Someone to tell us the truth. Doesn't mean I still don't hope he is wrong about them not intending to make a movie. And I don't think it hurts him talking this way or being hired again to do the show. He didn't name "names" & doesn't mean the behind the scenes people will still be the same if & when it ever comes back. Thank you so much for putting this video up!
ps loved him talking about jason & david like that. hard to work that long together & not being able to laugh at each other ;)
Just watched this video, and I really enjoyed it -- particularly enjoyed the humorous tale of his circuitous route to becoming an actor. Perhaps Joe's comments about the cancellation of SGA don't serve him well in getting a new show, but one has to admire his candor. I think most of us would agree with what he said re TPTB's arrogance, especially if we'd read some of the comments from Mallozzi and Wright, and one particularly inflammatory comment from Dave Howe at SyFy re the "next fix of the Stargate franchise"? For a look at how a bit of innovative thinking might have saved SGA while allowing SGU a chance, check out http://onforb.es/ryDTik -- this is an idea for rebooting Star Trek for TV, but as I read it, I kept thinking, "why couldn't someone at the Stargate franchise have thought like this?!” And I wouldn’t have seen the Forbes article had I not followed the link from David Hewlett’s Twitter page to http://onforb.es/wwTQKg. Still miss seeing those guys on TV every week!
Sorry about the comment fail - LJ seems to think some comments are spam when they're not. I really appreciate Joe's candor and his willingness to let the fans know the truth -at least as he saw it. And I totally agree about the arrogance. Of course, we weren't the demographic audience TPTB were trying to reach, though I'm not sure they knew themselves who they were trying to reach. It just goes to prove that while the Atlantis fans saw a Team and "family," TPTB were hard pressed to see anything what with their heads up their own asses.
Thanks a lot for the link to the Forbes article. Atlantis was ripe for just that sort of treatment. With Vegas they opened up a new phase of the story and one that could have even been linked or intertwined with SGU. Unfortunately, there were not enough dollar signs to go around.
