Love how Sheppard stands his ground... not a flinch, not even a blink - two great actors who worked really well together. You have to give props to Chris Heyerdahl; he took the character of Todd and made it his own. He made the Wraith interesting as a race in a way that hadn't been done before (IMO), and, while the writers created a great foil for Sheppard, it was the way Joe and Chris played that relationship that made it work so well.

I love how these gifs distill a scene down to where you can really notice such details like this--and not have it just be part of your overall impression of the show. I'm enjoying them (and your observations on them) tremendously. :-)

I agree - it's so easy to miss little nuances when watching the episodes. That's why I love combing through screencaps and these wonderfully crafted GIFs. It's also a great way to appreciate great performances, especially Joe's subtle moves and looks.

Todd is a fascinating character and I love seeing him and John interact - thinking of the ending of Enemy at the Gate, for example or the fact that John feeds whatisface to him to help save Jeannie.

I agree. Their relationship is so interesting, sort of a mutually beneficial arrangement. I have so much love for Common Ground and have always maintained that there was some sort of bond created by Todd restoring Sheppard's life -something apart from a mere "gentlemen's agreement" - though I think it's probably more beneficial/manipulated by Todd, and something that Sheppard may not really understand.

I know exactly what you mean. I think there are good scenes in most all S5 episodes, and then those few eps (the ones you mentioned and EATG) that are just damn good all the way through. I like how the GIFs capture subtle moments from those scenes.

I'm not sure I've seen Infection in its entirety - if I have, I'e only watched it once. I definitely need to watch this one again soon!

I think Joe is waiting for just the right opportunity. He has said that he wants a series, or to be part of an ensemble cast (as he was in Atlantis) on a series. And he's said he wants to do movies, too, so I think he weighs his options pretty carefully, keeping in mind his family, and the benefits of the location/role. In the meantime, we do all miss him and would love to see him back on our TVs every week!

And yep we know he wants to find the right opportunity but we are waiting for it for 4 years by now and we become greedy and under withdrawal lol
We know he doesn't want to deceive us by choosing a poor project but look at what he played for the last 4 years even if he played them pretty good.he deserves more :) fingers crossed :)

This is one of my very favorite scenes from the series. I love the dynamic between Todd and Sheppard, always entertaining and intense.

I love their dynamic, too, especially the way Sheppard gets cocky when he knows he's in control of the situation and they banter with each other. But I do think there's a part of Sheppard that 'wants' to trust Todd.

I know I'm pretty slow on the uptake sometimes, but while I knew that Chris Heyerdahl had also played the wraith in 'Vegas,' I had NO IDEA that he'd played Halling, as well!

I think props go to many of the actors who played key wraith. Like you said, they made a race of alien villains multi-layered in a way that we've rarely seen since the Klingons. Some of the queens - wow! Intense!

ETA - I second what SGAMADISON said above. I'm enjoying the GIFs and the interesting perspectives on them very much.

And I just realized (again, slow on the uptake) that most of the wraith queens were played by the same actress, Andee Frizzell. I may be lame for not having figured that out sooner, but I'm officially impressed.

No no, you aren't the only one, on both counts!!! I've come to the fandom only recently so I think all these "obvious" connections are kind of lost on me. When I found out Heyerdahl played both Todd and Halling, I was floored. Halling was memorable but Todd is just an outstanding character. I suspect Heyerdahl is a much overlooked actor (much like Flanigan, alas).

That he is!! He's very prolific (a real working actor) and very talented. I think he gets so much work because he has such a range.

Not lame at all. When I came into the fandom, it was the beginning of S3 and I learned a lot of things by osmosis, so I need to keep in mind that there are still new fans (Yay!) even now.

Sort of. My husband was watching the whole series in order on Netflix late last summer. He'd seen many of them before but I hadn't. I jumped in somewhere in the middle, watched through to the end, and then started over at the beginning until I got back to where I'd started.

Now I have the series on BluRay and need to start over with S1 and plow straight through to the end, instead of just re-watching the hottest Sheppard parts when the husband is working late. ;)

The Wraith Queens are fascinating! I wish we had gotten a little more Wraith-ology, but then they were the baddies and I guess that was all we needed to know. Which was why I find Todd such an interesting character. Heyerdahl did such a great job with Todd, even giving him a sense of humor!

I think John is still pretty wary of the Wraith - because of his experience in Common Ground. But I do believe that Johns relationship with Todd is such that John - in this scene at least - doesn't believe Todd will actually do anything and that helps him to stand his ground. That and the marines... ;)

OMG! I used to watch live on my son's projection TV - his man-cave was mine for an hour every Friday night. And since, I've been relegated to watching DVDs on a 13" laptop screen. I do miss it so much.

Okay, John knows that Todd can't feed on him anymore but anyway - flinching is such an instinctive, involuntary reaction if somebody is about to land a blow on you that *not* flinching or even blinking in this moment is a really outstanding, unusual (non-)reaction from John.
