It was funny hearing him speak of how the Canadian writer's guild wanted to make sure he was adequately credited for Epiphany, but then after they looked into it, they decided he shouldn't be given credit at all. I would give anything to see the original script as he pitched it.
Also, the weird part of me can't help but wonder exactly how long it took him to grow that beard...,
Did they film this episode first thing after a hiatus, when he'd grown out the beard? I would be interested to hear what Joe had envisioned the episode to be originally.
Here is a quote from JF at the Vancouver Con April 2005 about 'Epiphany':
"I wrote the story, and Brad is attacking the screenplay right now. And it's called 'Epiphany.' ... I really had an idea for 'The Man Who Would Be King.' It was me and McKay discovering Z.P.M.s and becoming greedy and kind of drunk with power. And I thought that that would make for a great episode. And I got the standard reply that I always get when I pitch a story, which is, 'Oh, we did that on SG-1, Joe. Episode 157 ... haven't you seen it?'"

There's also a quote from this June 2005 Gateworld article (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2005/06/flanigan_reveals_epiphany_story.shtml) about when it was filmed:
"Executive producer Brad Wright is writing the teleplay for "Epiphany," which is expected to go before cameras shortly after the cast and crew return from their summer hiatus in July. The episode will likely air in January on The SCI FI Channel."
I'd like to have seen his original idea for the episode on screen.
Thank you so much for this! I had always wondered just how much the script deviated from Joe's intention. Wow, his idea sounds fascinating and interesting - I wish we could have gotten more of his intent. Seeing what Epiphany actually turned out to be, it's difficult to follow the thought process from one point to the other.
And I got the standard reply that I always get when I pitch a story, which is, 'Oh, we did that on SG-1, Joe. Episode 157 ... haven't you seen it?'
