Always miss the scruff, but it also seems like they put quite a bit of make-up on him in that scene. I could be wrong, but that's just how it feels to me.

oh man,when Joe said he would be in Fringe in the first episode,I was flailing.It is like fandom collusion but he was there for a really,really short time!
Anyways at least he was so pretty:)
