So many expressions - to see him in some of these, you'd almost think he was shy or bashful. Only later do you realize he's anything but.

It is why I often include it in a ficlet as he is thinking about something
that brings back the smile from an earlier experience, even if at the time
it was hardly something to smile about

I do too, darn it! And yes, he had lighter moods in the beginning and became a bit darker and somber as the seasons progressed. Notice his voice did as well. By season 5 he had this quiet, gravelly whisper thing going and it wasn't a normal volume voice. Not sure where that came from? ;)
