My brother-in-law drove twenty hours to take my six year old niece to see the Atlantis launch. As of right now, weather is holding up!

These pics are for my icon makers out there!

Lovely pics!

So glad that your b-i-l and family will get to see the launch. The first one I attended was ST-4 and I saw several while I lived in Miami...we would drive up to the Cape to see it. It is the most magnificient sight...unless you have been there, you cannot imagine how bright the light is from the engines and the concussion pounds into your body. The most amazing experience of my life. Today is a very sad day, to see the shuttle program over. But at least, the last ship to fly is Atlantis.

Thanks for a great week of Space!John....

Back in the early 90's I got a trip to Kennedy. Even as a space baby I didn't have a clue how big those engine bells on a Saturn V were. I had to take four pictures with my 55mm camera and paste them together. What a noise THAT must have been. The scale of the Shuttle space craft is a bit skewed when you have to watch on computer like I did Friday. Unfortunately, space is the last thing on people's minds these days. I was the only person in the office watching it live and cussing out loud at the 31 second hitch at the computer hand-off.

Great pix and I'm thrilled it's gone up successfully just a short time ago.

I hope someone does make some icons of these.

Wonderful photos - and here's to the successful return of Atlantis once her mission is over. It's been a fantastic 30 years.
