Kicking off the anniversary day! Just a little something I thought would be fun to share for the anniversary. I have other stuff too, but probably won't be able to post anything else until this evening. Work... RL... they really do get in the way!

I went and sifted through a lot of stuff I've collected over the last 10 years, and found this. The Original Cast Descriptions for the characters in SGA. I believe these were part of the guidelines for casting in SGA. Its pretty cool to read and see what persisted and what changed (like Teyla's name and the addition of Rodney McKay instead of an original scientist character.

Anyway, read and hopefully enjoy! More to come later. :)

Three members of this new Stargate team, all of whom are series regulars, will include:

• Major John Sheppard: A gifted military pilot, posted at McMurdoch Air Force Base because it’s the only place they will let him fly; Sheppard once defied a direct order and flew his helicopter to rescue two Rangers trapped behind enemy lines. Though people might see a good-ol’ boy exterior he is also a closet mathematical genius. He has a wry sense of humor and likes to pretend he’s not as smart as he really is. Most of the time a perfect gentlemen – who tries his best to be charming – when he’s pushed to fight he can be an absolute animal with single-minded purpose. He distrusts authority and always goes with his gut letting his strong sense of common sense morality lead his actions. The character is listed as being between 35 and 40 years old.

• Dr. Elizabeth Weir: Described as “attractive, brilliant, and the master of five languages,” this 35-year-old started out as a critic of government spending on the military. But she ultimately decided the best way to fight the establishment was to join it and change what she could from within by brokering peace and being a voice of reason to whoever would listen. She worked behind the scenes for the U.S. government as a high level international negotiator for years before being offered command of the Stargate Program by the new President. Now, she has been given the opportunity to lead an international team through the gate to a new galaxy on a grand mission to save all of humanity and she is not one to turn that challenge down.

• Mikala: Beautiful and soulful, she is a native of post-apocalyptic alien world viewers will encounter in the initial episode and has lost most of her family to the Wraith. Despite her youth, she has become somewhat of a leader to her people. Initially seen as a love interest for Sheppard, she joins our team’s effort to defeat our common enemy in the Wraith and their budding romance becomes playful sexual tension as they focus on their mission. She proves herself early on to be a surprisingly scrappy fighter, a survivor under any circumstances and an invaluable source of knowledge about the people and worlds we will be visiting. The producers are looking for an actress of any ethnicity for the role, which is listed as being between 20 and 25 years old. (SGAFan: This became Teyla… name change)

• Lt. Aiden Ford: Described as “boyishly good-looking, with an ebullient sense of humor to match,” this 25-year-old is an officer who volunteers for the Atlantis mission. A good man in a tight spot, he accompanies Major Sheppard on a perilous rescue mission to the Wraith planet, where unspeakable terrors lurk. He keeps a cool head and his finger on the trigger when the Wraiths are closing in on the rescue party.

• Dr. Benjamin Ingram: In his 40’s, Ingram is a brilliant African Canadian scientist who has done a heroic job of interfacing modern technology with those of the Ancients, and is in large part responsible for the new discoveries that have made the Atlantis mission possible. However, it bothers Ingram that he doesn't possess the rare gene that would allow him to physically interact with the Ancients' technology. He also accompanies Dr. Weir and Major Sheppard on their risky journey to another galaxy, where Atlantis now lies. (SGAFan: Replaced by Rodney ;) )

• Colonel Marshall Sumner: A hardened officer with a buzz cut and a hair-trigger temper, 50-year-old Sumner is no-nonsense and autocratic, a man who is accustomed to having his orders followed without question. He is the military leader of the Atlantis expedition, but he is second-in-command to Dr. Weir. At times, he forgets who's in charge, but he is an inspired commander who is committed to the mission, however dangerous. Later, he refuses to give vital information to the Wraith Queen before meeting an untimely end. Producers are looking for star names for this role.

Here we are, the end of our SGA From the Beginning theme - to the day of the premiere broadcast of Stargate Atlantis, July 16, 2004. (many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sgafan for helping facilitate that little slice of serendipity!) It's been a blast for me to go back through the screencaps to find rare and unusual shots to showcase; I hope you all have enjoyed them.

We're all about Joe here and while he's more than just John Sheppard, it's lovely to know that Sheppard is his favorite role and that our beloved Colonel embodies many of the same characteristics fans love about Joe as well. So, Happy SGAnniversary, everyone!

Waaaaay back, on July 14, 2009, [livejournal.com profile] melloniel asked if anyone would be interested in helping out with [livejournal.com profile] daily_flan and I jumped at the chance. At the time, I said that this was a job I was born to do and considering that I now have two other sites devoted to Joe, I think that statement proved true!

When this opportunity came up, the series was done, but I had just attended my very first con (Vancouver!) and was about to attend my second (Chicago, the mother of all Atlantis conventions). In other words, on that fateful day in 2009, when Mel put out that call, as far as SGA and Joe Flanigan were concerned, I was in and I was in DEEP.

I held the reins for just over a year but it feels like it was much longer, for all the fun, love and friendship that was shared. New shows have come and gone, and some shows are still going on (Supernatural, I’m looking at you) but after 10 years, I still haven’t let go of Atlantis. Though my time on LJ is limited these days, I’ve never left the SGA fandom in spirit and I’m beginning to think I never will. No series has ever captured my imagination and my heart the way that Stargate Atlantis did.

And It was more than Joe’s amazingly pretty face that inspired my devotion, although Lord knows that was reason enough! Everyone has their favorite characters but for me, it was the collective of Sheppard’s team that made the show, that kept me coming back and wanting more, even during the less successful periods *coughSeason5cough*. They became more than just TV characters to us, didn't they? We cared about John, Rodney, Teyla, Ronon and the rest — wanted them to win, wanted them to be okay in the end.

And as for myself, when the time came, I pictured Sheppard’s team together at the end, walking off into a brilliant Atlantis sunset, in search of another adventure but TOGETHER. Forever.

[livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse started a community just before the debut of Season 5, for fans to create their own promotional artwork. And I contributed a little piece to this comm. So I’d like to end with an addition to that earlier entry.

This is my Team. This is my Atlantis.

[livejournal.com profile] tex inspired me, though I don't think I could ever tell my story as well.

Without making this a novel, I've been around SGA since the beginning. I was an avid SG1 fan and remember the original promos for the show, where all they showed was a gate at the bottom of an ocean and I remember thinking "hm. That looks interesting." Wow. Little did I know huh? At the risk of sounding a tad bit melodramatic, this show actually changed parts of my life in profound ways. Before the SGA fandom, I had written fics, but had never done vids, or art. I've never been able to draw, or paint or sculpt or anything like that and had decided that I was analytical and technical, not artistic. This was a "fact" about myself that I had accepted years before.

My passion for SGA opened doors and avenues within myself to tap into an artistic side I never knew I had and I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey of self-discovery. First graphical art and then vids. Even in writing, I've gone further and done more than I ever thought I could. I wrote my first "novel" here and stories that have stretched and grown me as a writer.

I've made some of the best friends I've ever had in my life through this show and this fandom and still have so many of them. We go to cons together and are close friends. My love of SGA bloomed into so much more than just finding a forum and squeeing about the show (which is still fun too!) I've been going to Stargate cons since 2006 and have enjoyed every, single one of them. Still remember the first time I met Joe. Wow. :)

[livejournal.com profile] kristen999 came to me a few years back and asked if I would be interested in sharing my HD caps with the community. I totally was! I'd been sharing my HD capping on The Major website with a gallery, but loved the idea of sharing them to a wider audience of Sheppard and Joe fans. After all, what's the point of capping, if all they did was sit on my hard drive? And so, The "HD Pic Spams" (and eventually the BluRay Pic Spams) were born.

So a very VERY happy SGAnniversary to my all time favorite show and characters and to all the awesome people in this fandom!

In my mind, the chairs are still open for our favorite team, and always will be. No one else can fill their shoes, or sit in their chairs. :)

Okay, so I scoured my Stargate HD for fun stuff for this celebration. (Yes, I have a large, external HD dedicated to Stargate... I'm such a geek...)

Pics? Sure but other stuff too!

Like these! Stargate Fonts! One font file will give you Atlantis glyphs when you start typing, the other types in Ancient. hehehe...

I have NO CLUE where I got these, I've had them for years, but thought it would be so fun to share them!

Installation is easy, just copy them into your "Fonts" folder. (Windows Vista/7 C:\Windows\Fonts ) That's it. Drag and drop then launch something like Word and you should have them in your Font selection. I even use them in Photoshop. :)

You can download the very small zip file here: https://www.sendspace.com/file/5ux07y

I couldn't think of another way to share them, besides zip them up and upload to a file share. The file is tiny, only around 30K. ;)

Enjoy! More fun stuff coming!

Okay, here's something that is truly appropriate for this celebration.

Here are the original SciFi promos that ran leading up to the premiere of SGA. Short TV spots.

I remember these!

Told you I had fun stuff hiding in the dark recesses of my Stargate HD.... ;)

So, how about a character dossier on Sheppard from the Stargate Magazine. Anyone else remember that magazine? I got every issue while SGA was running... and yes, I still have them ;) Click the thumbnail to enlarge...

Oh, and of course Sheppard's Service Number (such things are very useful when you're writing fanfic... ;) ) Click the thumbnail to enlarge

[livejournal.com profile] neevebrody asked me to post a link to the video I did for the celebration. It's on my LJ :)

SGA 10 Year Anniversary Celebration Vid

and of course, pictures. I thought some season 1 promos would be appropriate. These are MGM HQ stills. Nice and big, so keep clicking the magnifying glass! Look at how YOUNG they are!! ;)

That's it! I'm done spamming you ;)

Remember how I said I was done? I lied. LOL!

Based of the fun we had on Twitter tonight with quotes, I thought you all might like my collection of SGA sound bites. I did this originally for sound effects on my computer, I snipped them out of the episodes and saved them in a Windows compatible format. I still use a lot of them. ;)

Its remarkable how many sound bites from McKay seem to perfectly fit for computer sound effects, especially the catastrophic "ERROR!" messages. HA! I think its the techno-sarcasm. Ha! Anyway, McKay, Sheppard, Wraith, Teyla, Weir... lots of characters all bites are short and satisfy Window's requirements.

Zip file is about 95MB. https://www.sendspace.com/file/v9ycr4

Enjoy!
