I like that they left that ambiguous, though if they didn't... that was one fine death scene - strictly acting wise.

Ambiguous endings are something I have always disliked; and I really hate it if the hero dies, it spoils the whole story. I won't knowingly go to see a film that doesn't have a happy ending; except for films that are retelling epic battles et cetera, which are depictions of real life battles, then I chose to go to see it or not as the case may be.

Plus seeing Shakespeare of course, if you go to see a tragedy, you've only got yourself to blame :)

It's listed as a behind the scenes shot, so it's hard to tell with just that one frozen moment. (I kind of feel like it's a grimace but I've always liked the shot for exactly the reason you say.)

These pics of him injured, pain me...I loved this episode, and have re-watched it several times...but I stop watching after the planes arrive...can't watch that last scene...

I'll bet killing Sheppard was Mallozzi's idea....

He didn't die! Just after the fade to black a chopper with medics landed and got him in an hospital. It was touch and go for a while but he pulled through! *refuses to believe anything else* :)

He didn't die... I wrote a tag where Rodney et al save him, after all, as Woolsey said: "We should have John Sheppard's co-ordinates." so they knew where to find (and bomb) the Wraith so they could find John, too.

I have two Vegas tags where John is saved at the last minute. Dang... one of these days I'm going to have to finish them. Other things have always gotten in the way and I really want to take my time and do it justice.

But I maintain that ending is purposefully ambiguous. You're right though, they had his coordinates and should have had a team on the way with the fighters.

Vegas!Shep is hot for so many reasons - that is true!

I've always thought that Joe and Mallozzi would be at odds about the outcome. If Mallozzi said one way, Joe would say the other just as a "screw you."

The final scene is painful, but I like the way Joe handled it.

I don't think that's a smile but a grimace of pain. It's just the moment in which the pic was taken that it looks like a smile. :D
