Any time I have to pose for a picture, I end up looking either like a deer caught in the headlights (unsure smile, eyes telegraphing my discomfort) or like a stern librarian. :/

You are most certainly right, and I shouldn't have been critical of what was probably a test shot. When I pose for a picture, I'm either grimacing at being caught on camera or I come off looking like Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies. Before Emma Watson grew up and, you know, got hot.

Well, I asked my hubby. Here's what he said:
"Not Flanigan again...oh, please....
Ok, this photo was taken by somebody sitting in front of him, close, and it's not a photo to be used for anything else but a sample to determine things like white balance, contrast, light intnsity, etc. Probably done also to show that Flanigan was in that studio. He looks kind of spooked because the flash went straight into his eyes. Every photographer starts with something like that."
