I adored Vegas for the visuals, but it was too odd and off-beat to function as a series- or season-ender.

I think that last, ghastly episode should have been a three-parter that was written PROPERLY instead of shoving 3 episodes of action and (occasionally nonsensical) plot into one rushed and rather stupid finale. The three-parter should have had the president and the generals (O'Neill and Landry) in it instead of doing it on the cheap so that it looked like Col. Carter was running an intergalactic war with the help of a few airmen.

When Atlantis landed, it should have done so without invisibility shields. What a great, game-changing ending for the entire series! The world knows... NOW WHAT? Think of the fanfic!

I loved Vegas! It's my # 3 of all SGA episodes. Joe was amazing. And that scene, the last scenes in general, with John Sheppard's death so absolutely moving. As Joe once said "an ordinary guy caught up in extraordinary circumstances"... *sighs*

I don't know about it being the finale, but it is in my top 3 favorite eps. Vegas!John is just amazing. You could build a whole AU around his character. Joe, as Det. Sheppard, was amazing. Flawed, wounded, cynical, yet still altruistic enough to turn around and do the job.

Oh, I do miss SGA! I loved Det. Sheppard. He was so brilliantly flawed. I want to believe they got there in time but I know it made "that producer" happy to have Sheppard dead, even if it was only in another timeline.

(I still think Joe Flanigan would have been the best choice for Rockford.)

It really was a great performance. The whole episode was an example of how awesome the show *could* have been if the writers had stepped outside their comfort zones every now and then. Obviously, the actors loved it, because they had a chance to exercise their acting chops, as well. I wouldn't have minded if it had been the last episode of the series, because of the potential for another Stargate series to pick right up where this one left off.

I couldn't begin to add any additional comments to the great observations that have already been made, I agree with all of you. Det. John Sheppard was one of the most interesting, complex, and sexy characters on TV in a long time. JF did such an amazing job of of giving us the John Sheppard we love and then add that incredible bad boy twist that made Det. Sheppard so hot. I think we all feel that not only were we cheated by the producers but so were these actors who gave life to the characters and made them more than how they were written. I could watch VegasJohn for a long time...and I refuse to believe he died. Not going there! (And EaG sucked...back on Earth...how stupid did the producers think we were? How's the Universe thingy going boys????")
